Simplicity of Cooking

What essential cooking tools are necessary? Cooking healthy meals doesn’t require a lot of fancy tools.  If you love to cook, your cupboards might be full of all the latest gadgets and cooks best friends tools.  You might even find yourself a regular at William -Sonoma or Sur La Table.  The love of cooking and tools always went hand in hand for me.  I would find myself wanting the to try something new that one of the chefs said would “change your cooking.”  After many years of falling into this trap, I have found in my search simplicity without losing the joy of the kitchen.

Here is a list of essential cooking tools, My I can’t live without products!

  • Cooking a raw, healthy foods first requires a good cutting board.
  • Epicurean is my new favorite.  This board is made from lightweight wood.  After use can be put in the dishwasher, won’t dull your knives, but most importantly it won’t harbor bacteria or absorb flavors or odors.
            • Good paring knife I love this colored set by Prepworks each for a particular use.
            • Veggie Wash- produce has been touched by many hands just to stock the shelve.  Besides most produce has pesticide residue.  Veggie washes can be purchased in most stores, or you can make your ownHomemade Fruit + Veggie Wash
            • Colander or Stainer any stainless steel one is good.  Just make sure it’s large enough to accommodate your meal portion.  5-Quart Stainless Steel Colander
            • Good Saute’ Pan- Make sure it is stainless steel or cast iron/enamel in my previous article I talk cookware Whats the Safest Cookware.  If you only plan on purchasing one pan or are building your inventory choose one that is large enough for multi-use. All-Clad Stainless Steel
            • Proper Utensils- Stainless or wood is best.  My favorite is wood saute paddle OXO 3 Piece Good Grips Wooden Turner Set  I use this one daily.
            • Vitamix- Vitamix 5200 Series Blender This is the item with the biggest price tag. A save up to purchase the product.  But let me tell you, it is worth the investment, its a workhorse. If you haven’t seen it in action, you need to. I use it every day for smoothies, soups, baby food, sauces, and so much more.
            • Juice extractor- GREEN POWER KEMPO yes you can juice with a Vitamix.  I like the juice extractor.  It removes the foam.  It can juice hard root as well as soft veggies and fruit. I’ve had mine for well over 12 years, and it gets used daily.
            •  KitchenAid  mixer- Whips up our families favorite  Coconut Berry Parfait.  Of course, it has lots of other uses, Sunday morning pancakes, homemade granola.  The uses are endless.
            • Oye Stainless Steel Garlic Press  I use clove after clove of garlic.  I love this thin press.  You can put 3 or 4 cloves in at once and press.

Now if your budget doesn’t allow for all 10 Items chose the items that would simplify your life and cooking experience.  Build and grow into your kitchen and cooking tools.  The more we enjoy the space and environment we are in the more joy and of course the more likely we are to cook.
