The bell has rung and it is now 2019!  Hard for me to believe that another year is behind us and we have a new year of 365 days, 52 weeks and 12 months.  Whew…

When I close out the end of one year and begin another year I spend some time reflecting on the previous year and then make changes or tweaks to old goals and set new goals for the New Year.

Last year for our family was a really challenging difficult year. It had many lows, some highs but I am honestly happy a new year is here.  With that, my desire for a successful 2019 is something I have put a lot of time into.

I am a big believer in not only setting goals but in choosing a word that will help define my desire for the new year. I’m not big on resolutions but on goals and a choosing a word.  Yes… there is a difference.

The beginning of the new year is a great time to tackle health goals.  Whether your desire is to lose weight or get to the root of pain, inflammation or your gas and bloating I want to make it easier to help you reach those goals.

5 Ways to Kick Start Your New Year and New Health Goals

1. Try a detox

A detox is a great opportunity for your body to flush out toxins and reset. You can try a 3 day or if you want to allow your body a more intense detox try a longer detox up to 30 days.  Detox isn’t about starvation but allowing your body to cleanse and refresh.

2. Intermittent Fasting

This is one of my secret weapons. I personally rotate in and out of fasting.  Anywhere from an 18 hour to 48 hours fast( that’s as long as I have fasted so far). A lot of research has been done on the health benefits of fasting. Not only for brain function, helping to treat symptoms, diseases, and aid in getting into ketosis but to help with weight loss.  Give Intermittent Fasting a try and see if you notice a difference immediately with energy and sleep?

3. Get Moving

One of the easiest ways to make one change this year is to get moving.  I don’t like to say exercise because that can induce feelings of cringe and anxiety.  Most people lets face it don’t really like to exercise so I am a big believer in moving through your day. That could include parking your car a little further out from your destination.  Taking a walk with your family after dinner or to get your morning going.  You could have a playdate at the park and make the playground a place to engage some sort of movement like steps up and down the curb or climb the jungle gym with your kids.  Talk about good upper body strength.  Try stretching holding some yoga poses while you are on the phone.  Use a medicine ball while you are watching tv do crunches, balance on the ball using core strength. Really the possibilities are endless.  You don’t need a membership to a gym you can accomplish some new movement with easily. Movement helps your body with digestion, detoxing and really gives your internal organs a cleansing.

4. Supplements

Supplements can be helpful in adding to your healthy lifestyle.  Some supplements we use as a family(I am of course not a physician and not prescribing), that we use daily include:

Vitamin-d3/k

Vitamin c

Probiotic

Multi-vitamin

Omegas

There are many other supplements that can assist in nurturing and healing based on your own body type and needs.

5. Hydration

Hydration is critical to all the cells in our body.  It is truly the single most important fuel for our body.  You can go longer without food than you can without water. Water is critical to brain health, cell health, to your energy, weight loss, detoxification I could go on…

We all start out the year setting high goals. Sometimes by mid-February, we become overwhelmed because of the lack of turning those goals into S.M.A.R.T goals. (Smart-Measurable-Achievable-Relevant-Timely).

Goal setting is critical to our success in reaching those lofty goals we set at the beginning of the year.  However, These simple 5 steps can help you with small goals to reach toward the larger goals you have.
